(282 words) The work of Alexander Isaevich Solzhenitsyn was originally supposed to be entitled “A Village Is Not Righteous,” but today we know it as “Matryonin Dvor”. This is no coincidence. The main character is the peasant woman Matryona Grigoryeva. She devoted her whole life to work for the benefit of others. The woman helped even strangers and did not ask for anything in return. Its only “wealth” is domestic animals and potted plants.
Matryona Grigorieva had a hard life. The death of a mother, an early marriage not out of love, need and deprivation ... The beloved bridegroom went missing, the girl, at the insistence of his relatives, married his brother, Yefim. Thaddeus returned, but it was already too late: he hated a newly-born relative for treason. But her misadventures did not end there either. The heroine lost all her children and husband. There was only a pupil of Cyrus, the daughter of Thaddeus. Now Matryona Vasilievna is relieved of work: she is often sick, but does not want to burden anyone with her problems and does not even always call a doctor. She is always kind, affectionate and affable. She believes in God and never complains. Her humble nature accepts all trials meekly.
We meet Matryona Grigoryeva when she helps Kira during the separation of the house: the family of the pupil is transporting property. A woman cannot stay away and, despite her illness, participates in transportation along with everyone. Suddenly, the sled in which things are stuck on the crossing. The old woman tries to save them and gets under the train.
Thus ends the life of a simple rural man who lived wisely and righteously. It turns out that relatives have no one else to help. But Matryona's friends and relatives do not yet understand this: they are only concerned with the question of sharing simple property. The reader is convinced: the village really can’t stand without a righteous person - a person, probably imperceptible, but ready to support in difficult times, turn his shoulder, and console with a kind word. The relatives of Matryona Grigorieva will also understand this, but repentance will come too late.
