(363 words) There are works that everyone needs to read in order to understand and to pass through. One of these is the book by A. Kuprin "Olesya", written back in 1898.
The story develops on the outskirts of Polesie, and against the backdrop of this dramatic love story, the nature of this region becomes even more picturesque. The main characters: the ordinary girl Olesya, who lives in the forest with her grandmother, and the intelligent gentleman Ivan Timofeevich, who came to gain new experience for literary work. Young people are so different, like magnet poles drawn to each other. If the emotions of the forest nymph are not fake, then Ivan only gets a new toy that will help him pass the time. It may seem that he had sincere feelings for Oles, but his actions make him doubt that this is true love. Desire, affection, attraction to beauty, of course, have a place to be, but nothing more. This is clearly seen in the episode where the young man declared to his beloved that faith in God is obligatory for a woman. It turns out that he did not understand the young girl and did not know about her power of love. He did not realize that she was much closer to God than all these stupid enthusiasts who spent time gossiping, envy and intrigue, and then pretended to sincerely honor God in the church. And because of his blindness, the heroine went to the temple of God and was beaten by parishioners.
In the image of the “witch” A. Kuprin realized his dream woman. Not surprising, because Olesya is trying to meet the standard of a loved one. She is happy with fleeting happiness, knowing that he and Ivan will not be together forever, because by agreeing to become his wife, she will only be the subject of mockery. The light will not accept a commoner, and the hero will have to give up everything to be with her. The girl does not want to put him before such a choice. Therefore, Olesya decides to leave the love and memory of Ivan in his soul and leaves him without saying goodbye.
No wonder the story "Olesya" is considered one of A. Kuprin's favorite works. This masterpiece is being studied even as part of the school curriculum. And not surprisingly, after reading the book, today's young generation, growing in the world of neglect and selfishness, will overestimate their own outlook on life, and especially on love. After all, the opinions of others are not the most important thing in the world. But honor, dignity and the ability to nourish tender feelings, no matter what, is the most valuable thing that can be!
