: A country boy rescues a friend drowning in a whirlpool and cries from joy and fear.
The box wakes up in the dark - the mother has not yet milked the cow, and the shepherd did not drive the flock into the meadows. Eyes stick together, but Yashka overpowers himself, dresses, breakfasts and leaves the house to dig up worms from Riga and wake Volodya, a new friend from Moscow. After drinking water from the well, the guys go to the pool - the most "fishing" place on the river. Yashka gives Volodya a fishing rod, pours worms into a matchbox and shows the place where the fish pecks.
The first fish at Yashka breaks off the hook, but soon he catches a large bream. Suddenly, a large lump of land, on which Volodya stands, slides into the river, the boy falls into the water, begins to flounder and choke. Yashka rushes into the pool, dives under Volodya, grabs his hand and pulls him ashore, then raises his friend's legs up, as far as he can, and shakes. Water flows from Volodya's mouth, he groans, and a cramp passes through his body. Soon he comes to his senses, and then Yashka begins to roar, panting and ashamed of his tears. He cries from joy, from the experienced fear, from the fact that everything ended well, and he saved Volodya. Volodya also begins to cry, looking at the calm water in the pool, the sun and bushes splattered with dew.
